Champions League 25th Anniversary -

Final - Manchester United 2-1 Bayern Munich

The Champions League returns this week and we are celebrating it here at ITV Sport Archive by going through our vault to find some of the best games featuring British clubs since the competition began 25 years ago.

On the 26th May 1999, Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United had the chance to make history and become the first English team to win an unprecedented treble. They took on German champions, Bayern Munich at the Nou Camp stadium in Barcelona. United went into the game without suspended captain Roy Keane, and fellow midfielder, Paul Scholes, but were still confident of winning their first European Cup in 31 years. It was a truly unforgettable night in Barcelona and the ITV cameras were there to witness it.
